New Version of Duomètre à Quantième Lunaire at SIHH 2012

Since 2010 the company Jaeger-LeCoultre at the annual exhibition SIHH presents the new versions of Duomètre à Quantième Lunaire watch. This year, fans of watchmaking are performed by a new model Duomètre à Quantième Lunaire (Ref. Q6042521), slightly modified in the direction of decreasing the case size. Reducing the diameter of the case did not affect the harmonious proportions of the dial, the masters of the company managed to keep its balanced structure, "adapt" to new watch dimensions. Location of the pointers has not changed: the lateral dial on the right shows hours and minutes, on the left side is located date and the moon phase indicators. Seconds are shown by the central hand, and in the 6 o’clock position is "jumping" second hand, makes a complete rotation every 6 seconds. Traditional indicators of the power reserve are symmetrically placed on the "5" and "7" o’clock. The dial with multi-display system is covered with sapphire crystal and "fringed" by the satin 18K gold case.

The watch is collected on the basis of the manufacturing movement with manual winding Calibre Dual-Wing Jaeger-LeCoultre 381. The caliber is divided into two parts (Dual-Wing), each with a separate barrel and a spring motor that provides a 50-hour power reserve. Despite this "autonomy" their motion is caused a crown: depending on the adjustment (clockwise or counterclockwise) it is winding with one or the other barrel. The first mechanism supports the functions of hours, minutes, seconds hands, date index, indicator, moon phases and "jumping" second hand, and the second one is used exclusively for the descent. They connect and coordinate the "jumping" second hand, which provides precision timing to 1 / 6 seconds.
The creation of the mechanism with two independent power sources has challenged the fundamental principles of the time theory. Until recently it is considered that the exceptional accuracy can provide watches, not equipped with sophisticated complications. When supplying the caliber with additional complications usually there are some failures, as part of the energy from the barrel moves in complication. Activation of each of them is due a certain amount of barrel’s power and leads to small deviations in the time dimension. The revolutionary design of Jaeger-LeCoultre watchmakers is based on the creation of the caliber with two independent watch movements: separating the energy of the mechanism from the energy of the complications, they could provide a constant power supply to the controller.
The mechanism is completely designed and assembled in the company’s workshops. The reliable caliber in diameter of 33.70 mm consists of 367 parts (40 jewels, the frequency of balance oscillation of 21 600 pc / h, power reserve - 50 hours).
