Duometre a Spherotourbillon by Jaeger-LeCoultre at the SIHH 2012

Swiss watch company Jaeger-LeCoultre at the annual exhibition SIHH 2012 has presented another masterpiece of watch mechanics - Duometre a Spherotourbillon, which combines two revolutionary inventions of brand’s masters - the concept of Dual-Wing and spherical Gyrotourbillon.
A fundamentally new concept of Dual-Wing (two independent mechanisms regulated by one crown) was developed in 2007. Establishment of a mechanism with two independent power sources challenged the fundamental principles of the time theory.
The basis for the new watch modeling has served a "double" 382-caliber, the first of which supports the functionality of hours, and the second - provides energy to the system of hour regulation (tourbillon). The mechanism of diameter 33.70 mm and 10.45 mm thickness is composed of 460 parts, of which 55 - jewels. Caliber, complicated by numerous complications, is assembled and decorated by hand of the manufacture’s craftsmen.

In terms of mechanics and engineering it has been very difficult to integrate multiple indicators of complications into the watch dial in such a way as to get a dial with harmonious proportions and balanced structure. Thanks to the carefully thought-out design of the dial indicators do not overlap and do not hinder reading. Harmonious integration of pointers is greatly contributed to the asymmetry of the dial.
The main disk is divided into four sectors: the decentralized right shows the local time, placed at the top a second time zone indicator and power reserve indicator of the first mechanism, below - a 60-second pointer and power reserve indicator of the second mechanism, and in the left is the most elegant complication - the tourbillon.
Decentralized main dial is "surrounded" by date of the scale. Disk pointers are located on different levels and surrounded by rings in white gold.
The overall design is perfectly complemented by the "spherical" tourbillon, situated at an angle of 20 degrees and moved around on its axis. A spring balance of the tourbillon is different from the traditional flat spirals by its cylindrical shape. Tourbillon completes a full revolution around its axis in 30 seconds; the diameter of the cage is 11.5 mm and weight - 0.518 g.
