Jaeger-LeCoultre Collectibles VIII Opens in New York

Jaeger-LeCoultre’s The Collectibles VIII “LeCoultre” presents nine restored American-market watches, including Triple Calendar reference 2726, in a New York exhibition. Announced on November 6, the selection covers pieces made between 1933 and 1981. It is the program’s second presentation in the city.
Watches from the American chapter
The LeCoultre name appeared on watches made for the United States, where the company opened a New York office in 1936. Import duties shaped production: Swiss movements traveled with their dials and hands, while cases were made and watches assembled locally.
A circa-1952 Triple Calendar has a rectangular yellow-gold case with hour markers engraved directly into its surface and filled with black lacquer. Blue date numerals surround the dial. Another exhibit, the circa-1970 Shark Deep Sea, combines a black dial, white chronograph counters and a diving bezel with a Valjoux 72 movement.

Restoration and documentation
The manufacturer’s restoration workshop has ten watchmakers. Their work includes servicing movements, making replacement components by hand and drawing on historical parts stocks, while preserving the watches’ accumulated patina.
Selection considers originality, condition, mechanical integrity, documented history and historical significance. The wider Collectibles program draws from seventeen model families, including the Duoplan, Reverso, Geophysic and Futurematic.

Exhibition and acquisition
The watches are displayed at the Madison Avenue flagship and offered through Jaeger-LeCoultre’s website. Each comes with an extract from the archives and a copy of The Collectibles book. Prepared by the brand’s heritage team, the book documents 44 calibers and 237 dials using more than 160 archival documents.
