SIHH 2012: a luxury watch Santos-Dumont XL Hourse Motif by the company Cartier

The watch Santos-Dumont XL Hourse Motif, exhibited at SIHH 2012, is one of an infinite palette of wonderful samples of products that creates the company. The art of creating a mosaic of precious stones, which the company Cartier is famous, is fully embodied in this model.
The watch Santos-Dumont XL Hourse Motif is the original product made of precious stones. Green and gray jasper, chocolate brown obsidian, pink opal - and it are not the whole list of jewels that designers used to create fantastic composition on the dial of this model. The combination of skills, different types of cut of precious stones creates an amazing play of light and shadow, so that the horse depicted on the dial, as if it is in motion. As the creators of the stunning chronometer noted, it takes 120 hours for creating of each model: 50 hours for creation of horse made of precious stones and 70 hours to complete the background of the dial.
The wrist watch Santos-Dumont XL Hourse Motif has released in two versions in limited edition: series without precious stones - 40 pieces and only ten models with precious stones.
The case and dial of the watch Santos-Dumont XL Hourse Motif is made of 18 carat white gold. The crown is faceted, as well as the watch case is also made of 18 carat gold. Water resistance of this model is up to 30 meters. The movement of the watch is manufacture Calibre 430 MS Works with manual winding.

The design is engraved into the gold plate and tiny pieces of cacholong are fitted into the cavities

Earth jasper, Kalahari jasper, grey Madagascar jasper, chocolate obsidian and pink opal are all part of the craftsman’s rich inventory

The interplay of more than 400 minuscule tiles will create depth, relief and the impression of light

The detailed composition, and the many subtle colours of the tiles require meticulous work from the craftsman to create a harmony of tones

One by one, more than 400 tiles are placed onto the engraved plate using a very fine pair of tweezers

Already the animal seems proud and alert, ready to spring into action. The design is surrounded by a metal border: the details of the neck, the mane and the nostrils are highlighted with fine gold lines engraved by hand
