Datograph Up/Down by A.Lange&Söhne at SIHH 2012
At the annual watch salon SIHH 2012 the Saxon manufactory A.Lange & Söhne has introduced an updated version of the chronograph Datograph, differing by harmonious arrangement of the dial and technical sophistication. Design engineers of the company made certain changes to the technical parameters of this watch, while maintaining recognizable design: round case, symmetrical design of the dial, the aperture of the double date, counters, chronograph and indicator of power reserve. Power reserve in this new watch Datograph Up/Down has been increased to 60 hours. The designation “UP / DOWN” refers to the new additional feature of the mechanism and points to the power reserve, which was increased by installing a large winding drum. The big balance wheel, designed and manufactured in a factory Lange, has six adjustment eccentrics by which the frequency of the balance is adjusted exceptionally accurately. The mechanism works with a frequency of 18 000 pc / h. Technical improvements is also easy to use callback function, which was invented in the early years of aviation development. This function allows produce consistent measurements of time, carrying out three operations instantly at the touch of a button - stop, reset and a new dimension. Today, the rare chronographs are equipped with this feature, since in terms of watch mechanics and engineering it is very complex and laborious process.
This watch is assembled on the basis of the manufacturing movement L951.6 with manual winding, consisting of 451 parts. All elements of caliber are artfully decorated and processed. The high level of micromechanical performance even more underlines screwed to platinum gold chatons. The work of this technically and aesthetically perfect caliber can be observed through the transparent case back. The mechanism is set into the case with larger size (41 mm) made of platinum. Increasing of the case diameter is due to the improvement of the functional component of the mechanism. New case dimensions allow integrating the indicators of new features in the dial, without changing its harmonious proportions and elegant balanced structure. On an organic dial there are gold marks with rhodium-coated, small second hand with stop function in the correction of the time, the return chronograph (flyback) with a precision minute counter switch, scaler indicator of power reserve and a double date aperture, the dimensions of which were slightly altered for a perfect match with the increased case. The date window has been increased by four percent - as much as necessary to preserve the balanced proportions of the dial.
