The Thinnest Watch by A. Lange & Söhne at SIHH 2012
In 2012, the watch manufactory A. Lange & Söhne has focused not on the number of the novelties, but on their qualitative component. Almost all the models of wristwatches, presented at the annual Salon Haute Horlogerie - the creative and technical rethinking of the ideas embodied in a particular collection.
In the new year the watchmaker A. Lange & Sohne has presented its thinnest wristwatch SAXONIA THIN in white gold case. The thinnest model Saxon Mill (the case thickness - 5.9 mm) was created last year. In 2011 it was presented in the case of pink gold.
For the ultra-thin case the watchmakers have created a mechanism for ultra-thin thickness of 2.9 mm. The making such a thin caliber the parts is required the maximum reduction of the caliber, but the "minimizing" of the parts was carried out taking into account the functional reliability of the mechanism.
The watch is collected on the basis of hand-wound caliber L093.1, consisting of 167 parts (the number of jewels - 21, 3 of them in gold chatons, the vibration frequency of the balance - 21600 pc / h, power reserve when fully wound - 72 hours). Mechanism is assembled and decorated by hand. Artfully decorated parts are under the three-quarter platinum, made of nickel silver (Neusilber is an alloy of copper and 5-35% nickel and 13-45% zinc) and treated by the banded texture grinding in the Glashutte style. The construction with three-quarter platinum is a patented design of the company founder Ferdinand Lange. It allowed improving the stability of the mechanism and demonstrating an elegant engraving of the balance bridge and the triggering device. The wheels of the winding gear, processed with the usage of solar textured polishing, are also distinguished by the elegant finish. And three gold chatons with artificial rubies, fortified by three-quarter platinum, attach the mechanism an aesthetic perfection. The work of the artfully decorated caliber can be observed through the transparent case back.
The wristwatch SAXONIA THIN is impressed not only by its elegant finishing movement, but also the harmonious proportions and classic design. In the case with diameter of 40 mm is set a laconically decorated dial, made of one piece of silver. On the silvered dial are highlighted the oblong hour markers in the baguette shape and the central hands indicating the hours and minutes.
The wrist watch with regular geometric shapes, clean lines and minimalist design is made in accordance with centuries-old tradition of German watchmaking.
