TB88 by Arnold & Son at BaselWorld 2012

The company Arnold & Son in the current year at the exhibition BaselWorld 2012 has introduced the TB88 watch. The first part of the name stands for True Beat. True Beat is a hour complication, known under the term "dead seconds" or "stop-second," and the number "88" refers to the first pocket watch by John Arnold, which case has identical numbering.
The tradition of using the function "dead seconds," goes back to the XVIII-XIX centuries: the scheme of the complication appeared in the XVIII century, but has wide application in the XIX century. Complications are mainly used in marine chronometers, which allowed more accurately determination of the longitude.
One of the first, who drew attention to the new complication and later took advantage of high-precision marine chronometers, was Sir John Arnold (the founder of Arnold & Son).
In the watch with a function of stop-second the second hand moves with a jump per second (in the traditional schemes it moves in small steps - 5-10 times per second).

The function of the dead second is added to the manufacturing mechanism with manual winding A & S5003 (diameter - 37 mm, thickness - 5.9 mm, 32 jewels, the vibration frequency of the balance - 18000 pc / h, two winding barrels, providing a 100-hour power reserve). The caliber has the capability to display hours, minutes (by using central hands), seconds (the hand is displayed on the small lateral dial – at the 7 o’clock position).
Due to the expanded construction of the movement the visually interesting technical elements are visible from the dial: at the top of the dial are symmetrically located the winding barrels, at the bottom - the balance wheel and the indicator of "dead seconds", giving the dial a balanced structure.
The mechanism is elaborately decorated; details of German silver have black ruthenium coating or gray coating NAC, bridges - straight, with polished edges, shading the matte surface.
High functionality and aesthetic appeal of the mechanism are in perfect harmony with the restrained styling elegant design, presented in two versions - rose gold (Ref. 1TBAP.B01A.C113A) and stainless steel (Ref. 1TBAS.S01A.C113S).
The case water-resistant lets go down to a depth of 30 m.
The novelty comes on a black alligator strap.
