TAG Heuer: a new racing chronograph with a carbon composite matrix
TAG Heuer has announced the release of the next racing timepiece Carerra Carbon Matrix Composite Concepr Chronograph, the creation of which the masters are used a composite with carbon matrix. The inspiration for the creation of a new model will be the first sporty watch Carrera in 1963, designed for professional racers and motorsports enthusiasts. The design of the Carerra Carbon Matrix Composite Concepr Chronograph is based on a revolutionary novelty in 2012 - CARRERA MIKROGIRDER, the award-winning Aiguille d'Or (Golden Arrow) in the contest Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix (GPHG, Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix).
The new racing model TAG Heuer is different from the previous analogs with particularly easy incredible durability, due to the use of new materials in watchmaking - a composite with a carbon matrix (used in the aerospace industry and the elements of the Formula-1 racing cars). Of thin carbon fiber, filling three-isotropic carbon matrix, are made stronger parts of complex geometry. Sentinels elements are formed from layers of soft and flexible reinforced fabrics that after heating and compression translate into hard monolith. Case, back cover, lugs and bezel are made of the new material. The total weight of the components listed above is only 76.9 grams.

Design of the watch is sporty; all elements are in a gray-black tones, only chronograph hands are shown with red accents. The dial is characterized by multi-level display: hours, minutes (show central hands), date (aperture at 6 o'clock position), and chronograph (central second’s hand, 30-minute and 12-hour pointers at 9 and 3 o'clock positions respectively), tachymeter. Instead of traditional hour markers - a minute scale on which the five-minute intervals are indicated applied Arabic numerals, in the style of car dashboards. Crown and chronograph pushers are located on the side of the case at the 12 o'clock position, as in a classic watch.
The new racing model is designed based on the manufacturing mechanism Calibre 1887, which emerged as a result of four years of intensive research and development work of engineers TAG Heuer. The caliber of 320 parts is equipped with a column-wheel chronograph, which interacts with shuttle gear on the basis of the transmission in the car: the column wheel, responsible for start, stop and reset the chronograph functions as a transmission, and a rocking toothed wheel - the role of adhesion. As you can see, a parallel with the racecars is felt even at the level of engineering solutions.
