Omega Presents New Timing Equipment during Hockey Matches at the Winter Olympics in Sochi
The company OMEGA, an official timekeeper of the Olympic Games, in conjunction with the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) has developed a system of recognition of whistles during hockey games - an innovative technology, first introduced at the Winter Olympics Sochi 2014.

Recognition system of whistles during hockey matches
During the match, each judge uses wireless microphone to transmit the information to the judge, master timing. Automatic recognition whistles audio tracks throughout the match, immediately stopping time at the sound of the whistle of the judiciary. The watch stops for one tenth of a second after the whistle - half a second faster than if the judge stopped them manually. This system provides precision stop playing time and thus allows for additional playing time.

The new recognition system of whistles for ice hockey uses the same principle as in voice recognition. This equipment "recognizes" the sound signature of each of the three different whistles approved by the IIHF for the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.
