BaselWorld 2012: Speedmaster Racing by Omega
Even before the fact, that the legendary chronograph Speedmaster of the Swiss watch company Omega has made its "cosmic career," his performance and aesthetics of design has received high recognition among the racers.
In 1957, when the Speedmaster watch was released, it was praised by the contestants for motorsport and rally for the high quality of the chronograph and a great design registration.
Design of the dial was made in the style of instrumental disks of Italian cars of that time - it was the first chronograph, tachometer scale of which was moved from the dial on the bezel. The very first print ad of Omega Speedmaster watch said: "Our picture shows two amateur of sporty car, experiencing the watch. Only this is not a watch but a new high precision wrist computer Speedmaster”.
Continuing the tradition, the company Omega introduces a new Speedmaster Racing watch, released in honor of this chronograph participation in road racing for several decades. Even before the Speedmaster watch was worn on the moon or the North and South poles, it can be seen on the wrists of people competing in powerful cars.
The round case of the novelty with a diameter of 40 mm is made of stainless steel. The matte aluminum tachometer ring is mounted on the black bezel. There are also other versions of this model with a bezel with a tachymeter scale of gray, gray-yellow or grayish-red color. On the case back is screwed in a visible emblem of the seahorse. Chronograph pointers are placed at the 3, 6 and 9 o'clock positions. The time display is carried out by three central hands. The small date aperture is set at the 6 o’clock position inside one of the counters. Hour and minute hands are coated with luminous material Super-LumiNova, second hand and counter hands are made in yellow color.
The new Speedmaster Racing watch is collected on the basis of an exclusive mechanism 3330 with column wheel. The caliber is equipped with a coaxial escapement and the balance spring from the silicon Si 14.
