New Freak Phantom Timepiece by Ulysse Nardin
The legendary watchmaker Ulysse Nardin has expanded its collection with a new limited edition model Freak Phantom.
In 2001, the watch brand has made a real revolution in the watchmaking industry by presenting the original model Freak. The revolutionary use of silicon has become the main feature of the model Freak.
The novelty Freak Phantom has an unusual design where the carousel tourbillon rotates on its axis. The model has no crown and hands. Development of the Freak watch initiated the use of silicon not for decorative purposes but for creation of the movement’s working parts, changing the principle of operation. The improved model Freak Phantom – is a tribute to its predecessor, its continuation and technical improvement.
Freak Phantom - is a combination of new discoveries and technological solutions: a silicon hairspring and parts, which are made of a patented material, known as "Silicon 1.1.1.“. The whole mechanism with an 8-day power reserve and a generator are designed and assembled in the workshops of manufacture.

Using advanced technology, performance demonstration of the model is improved: two new systems of ball bearings, the concept and design of the balance, flying tourbillon, indicating a second carousel tourbillon, rotating on an axis at a speed of 1 turnover in 60 minutes. The carriage is provided with a hand, which is placed on the semicircle indicating seconds and completes one revolution per minute around its axis. The zero mark on the scale of the semicircle coincides with the geometric axis of the carrousel tourbillon assembly.
Minute and second tourbillions are "hovering" without the need for supporting the bridge, thanks to a specially designed system of ball bearings. The watch can be started, twisting the back cover, and set the time - twisting the bezel. Specially designed wheel system allows avoiding discrepancies of the hands and reset when setting the time.
The novelty case is made of 18-carat pink gold, which is harmoniously combined with gold Arabic numerals placed on the black dial.
