Quartz Watch Royal Oak by Audemars Piguet at the SIHH 2012
Royal Oak - an iconic collection of Swiss watch company Audemars Piguet. Its construction will coincide with the peak of quartz "invasion."
The first quartz watches were created in 1969. Within 2 - 3 years the cheap quartz filled the world market, the volume of mechanical timing devices production was sharply reduced. The quartz revolution destroyed the existing over the centuries’ system of Haute Horlogerie values. It was necessary to find fresh solutions to the "mechanical technology" to revive the traditional watchmaking.
The company Audemars Piguet as opposed to quartz boom in 1972 created a collection of Royal Oak, based on experience and tradition of mechanical watches.
In 2012, legendary collection, which played a major role in the "revival" of traditional watchmaking, was 40 years old. Paradoxically, for the anniversary the company has released a quartz version Royal Oak for Ladies (Ref. 67651ST.ZZ.1261ST.01). The novelty was presented at the annual exhibition SIHH 2012.
In the quartz version the Royal Oak kept the overall design concept of the line: case and bracelet, forming a single structure, octagonal rant, hexagonal screws, dial with Tapisserie motif.
The case and bracelet are made of stainless steel; the rant is inlaid with 40 round diamonds. The watch has no many functions: hours, minutes, seconds are pointed by the central hands, date aperture is at the 3 o’clock position. Correcting testimonies crown, repeating the form of multi-faceted bezel, is located on the lateral surface of the case at the 3 o’clock position.
The model is completed with a quartz movement 2713 in diameter of 18.79 mm and thickness of 2.2 mm.
