A New Royal Oak 40th Anniversary
The watch company Audemars Piguet has introduced the first model of the famous Royal Oak in sleletonised version at the exhibition SIHH 2010. The skeletonised watch Royal Oak has since enjoyed a large enough demand among collectors. In the upcoming 2012 the watch of the legendary Royal Oak will turn 40 years old. In honor of the anniversary of the famous Gerald Genty’s masterpiece the company has released a new sport watch Extra-Thin Openworked Royal Oak 40th Anniversary (Ref. 15203PT.OO.1240PT.01).
Unlike the early watch of Royal Oak Steel, the jubilee Extra-Thin Openworked Royal Oak 40th Anniversary is made of platinum. The case diameter is 39 mm, but the most surprising - this is its thickness: only 8 mm. By the way the skeletonised watch Royal Oak, submitted in 2010 was also very thin - 9.38 mm. The water-resistant of Ref. 15203PT.OO.1240PT.01 is 50 meters.
The watch is equipped with a new manufactory caliber 5122, painted through the transparent case back, as well as through the skeletonised dial. The thickness of the watch mechanism is only 3 mm, and it consists of 247 parts and 36 stones. The power reserve of Extra-Thin Openworked Royal Oak 40th Anniversary is 40 hours. The rotor mechanism is placed a commemorative inscription "AP Royal Oak 1972-2012".
Hours and minutes are measured by the central hands Extra-Thin Openworked Royal Oak 40th Anniversary. And at the "3:00" is the date aperture for which numbers are placed on an "invisible" sapphire disk, so outside of the aperture (on the skeletonised dial) none of the 31 digits is seen to the naked eye. They seem magically to appear only in the aperture - on a light substrate.
The jubilee watch Extra-Thin Openworked Royal Oak 40th Anniversary (Ref. 15203PT.OO.1240PT.01) has naturally released in limited edition consisting of 40 copies (one for each year of the model, Royal Oak). It is delivered on a metal bracelet.
Officially, this watch will be presented at the International Exhibition SIHH, held in January 2012.
