Breguet Marine 5517 and 5527: New Hand-Guilloché Dials Inspired by the Sea
Breguet has added new versions to its Marine collection: the three-hand Marine 5517 and the Marine Chronographe 5527, each in white gold, rose gold and titanium. All of them have hand-guilloché gold dials with the "Quai de l'Horloge" pattern, named after the address of Abraham-Louis Breguet's workshop in Paris.
A naval heritage
The Marine line refers to 1815, when Abraham-Louis Breguet was appointed Watchmaker to the French Royal Navy. The new models carry several nautical details: the tip of the seconds hand on the 5517 and of the chronograph hand on the 5527 forms a "B", the letter of the "Bravo" signal flag; the crown guard evokes a wave; and the gold oscillating weight, visible through the sapphire case back, is shaped after a ship's rudder.
Marine 5517
The 5517 shows hours, minutes, seconds and the date at 6 o'clock in a 40 mm case, 11.5 mm thick. The dial is ice blue in white gold, black in rose gold and blue gradient in titanium. Inside is the self-winding calibre 777A with a silicon balance spring, a frequency of 4 Hz and a 55-hour power reserve. Water resistance is 100 m.
Marine Chronographe 5527
The 5527 is a flyback chronograph in a 42.3 mm case. A large central hand counts the seconds, while counters at 3 and 9 o'clock show the chronograph minutes and the small seconds. The dials have a blue gradient in white gold and rose gold, and a grey gradient in titanium. The self-winding calibre 582QA has 343 components, a silicon balance spring and an inverted silicon lever.
Prices
Both models are offered on a rubber strap or a metal bracelet matching the case. In the United Kingdom the Marine 5517 costs from £20,300 (titanium on rubber) to £61,700 (rose gold on bracelet), and the Marine 5527 from £25,400 to £72,100.
