A new exhibit of the Breguet watch museum
The company Breguet for its watch museum has acquired a unique model in 1808, created by the order of the Ottoman Empire heir. The watch was purchased by Breguet in Beijing auction for 650 000 Swiss francs. It was a record high price for Breguet watches at a young Chinese market.
This historical pocket watch Breguet N ° 1090 Grande Complication in 1807 was ordered by Esseyd Ali Effendi, the former Turkish ambassador in Paris, and a personal friend of Abraham-Louis Breguet. The head of the famous watch house, thanks to this acquaintance, got access to the promising Turkish market - the only state with the great power among the allies of Napoleon's France.
Incidentally this is not the only watch Breguet, related to Turkey. Sultan Mahmud II in 1813, the accession to the throne was given Breguet watch with precious stones. It is the most expensive watch created by Breguet and is now stored in Topkani, Istanbul Palace.
The watch Breguet N ° 1090 Grande Complication, purchased by the company for the museum, has a quarter repeater with independent grande and petite sonnerie. A double case is covered with enamel red and gold decor in the classic Turkish style. On the white dial are placed not simple hour indices, but an ancient Arabic numerals, reminiscent of the same pattern elements, ornamented the case.
At Beijing Poly Auction the watch Breguet became the main lot, for which was the persistent and long bidding. Now Turkish Grande Complication will be part of the watch company Breguet museum treasure, which is located in Paris, Place Vendome, at the famous brand boutique. The watch will be displayed at the museum Breguet in the next few weeks - most likely in the New Year.
Royalty among customers of Breguet are not uncommon. Breguet watches were created for Queen Marie-Antoinette, the Emperor of Russia, Alexander I, Empress Alexandra Fedorovna, Queen Victoria, and even the great Napoleon Bonaparte.
The luxurious masterpiece Breguet N ° 1090 Grande Complication has become not only a tribute to the great skill of the watchmakers, but another part of the Breguet historical heritage, thanks to the museum available to a wide range of brand fans.
