Rolex has become a partner of Deepsea Challenge expedition, organized by James Cameron
Keeping on true to the spirit of the discoverer, the company Rolex became a partner of the Deepsea Challenge expedition, organized by filmmaker and explorer James Cameron and the National Geographic Society. In March 26, 2012 the expedition made a dive to the bottom of the Challenger Abyss - the deepest point of the Mariana Trench, located in the Pacific Ocean 200 miles (≈ 320 km) from the island of Guam. The immersion of the depth was 10,898 meters (35,756 feet).
On the external manipulator of the bathyscaphe Deepsea Challenge was assigned an experimental model for deep-sea diving Oyster Perpetual Rolex Deepsea Challenge, which provides water resistance at depths of 12,000 meters (39,370 feet). The watch that is specifically designed and manufactured by Rolex in the walls of Manufacture for the expedition of James Cameron ensure water-resistance to new depths, confirming the Rolex company's leading position in the deep-sea researches. By its characteristics the model Rolex Deepsea Challenge is an improved version of professional diving watches Rolex Deepsea, presented in 2008, and preserving water resistant to a depth of 3900 meters (12,800 feet). A new experimental model has a diameter of 51.4 mm and 28.5 mm thick. Like the model Deepsea of 2008, the new model is equipped with a patented system of the case architecture Ringlock. In addition, as the entire dive watches Rolex, the model is equipped with a patented triple-sealing Triplock.
