BaselWorld 2013: Senator Tourbillon by Glashutte Original

At the annual exhibition BaselWorld 2013, the well-known German watchmaker Glashütte Original has introduced a new original model Senator Tourbillon. It is equipped with a "flying" tourbillion, which was invented in 1920 by Alfred Helwig.

The model Senator Tourbillon has a new look, designers chose white gold instead of steel. The case diameter - 42 mm. The gray lacquered dial features Roman numerals and two hands in the style of poire. On the dial, there is a "railway" minute scale. At the 12 o'clock position is a double date aperture, while at the 6 o’clock position - a magnificent "flying" tourbillion with a second’s pointer. This tourbillion, invented by Alfred Helwig, one of the great masters of Germany, is different from the traditional tourbillion. As it is known, the traditional tourbillion mechanism is designed to compensate for the effects of gravity on the accuracy of the watch; it is attached at the top and bottom. The tourbillion of Alfred Helwig is attached on one side only, so that it floats freely as if it is "floating." The balance, the anchor fork and escape wheel are arranged in a fixed carriage that continually makes one revolution around its axis to compensate for the accuracy of the deviation caused by the effect of gravity on the balance sheet.

The new Senator Tourbillon watch operates on the base of the automatic caliber 94-03. The screw balance by 18 screws makes one revolution per minute, as indicated by the small second’s hand with a blue-tipped blued steel, located on the carriage. A skeletonized rotor with the gold double-letter “G” logo equips the caliber 94-03. Slim trim of the mechanism is visible through the sapphire crystal, mounted on the back cover of the case.
The model comes on a gray strap with a folding clasp in white gold.
