No doubt, that the acting is one of the most difficult professions, that has a huge impact on the viewer. Apart from the fact, that the movie – is a great way to relax and enjoy, for actors it is the best way to become famous and well-known. In this case the world's watch companies are trying to gain fame in such a way too. If the watch brand is noticed in the movie, its popularity will certainly redouble. The watch companies promote their products in movies, in the hope, that a potential buyer will notice them and, therefore, appreciate them. A client buys a watch, remembering, that "yes, this is the watch I saw in the film."
It was a wide variety of (already) Swiss wrist watches by Hamilton brand, that contributed to the company's long-term cooperation with Hollywood. Hamilton company appeared in Hollywood, when the movie barons didn't even know such term as “product placement”. Now we all know, that product placement — is an advertising gimmick, a form of advertising, sometimes hidden, placed in movies, television shows and books. In this respect, Hamilton watch company can be considered one of the pioneers. Already in 1961, the company signed a contract with legendary Elvis Presley. The actor starred in the musical film "Blue Hawaii", where the main character (Presley) wore Ventura men's watch by Hamilton company on his wrist. "Blue Hawaii" is one of the most profitable and successful films, where Elvis Presley, the great legend of movie and music, starred. So, we can imagine, what kind of popularity was gained by Hamilton company after the release of this movie in 1961.
But "Blue Hawaii" is not the only film, where Hamilton Ventura watch "acted the part". Perhaps the most famous role of this model is a part in a fantastic comedy "Men in Black", filmed in 1997. Rather an interesting fact occurred there. The matter is, that Steven Spielberg, the film producer, chose Ventura men's watches as the "official watches" for the film characters - agents Kay (Tommy Lee Jones) and Jay (Will Smith). Spielberg decided, that these precise magnificent watches of black colour corresponded to the enigmatic style of the characters, who worked in the Secret Space Agency. In addition, these watches were spotted on all the movie billboards, that's why there was no surprise, that all young successful people wanted to wear the watches of men in black.
After the debut of Ventura watches, the other model, known as Hamilton Khaki (with a nice khaki-coloured strap), appeared on the big screens. Hamilton Khaki — is the character of such the action movies as "U.S. Marshals," "Independence Day", "Chain Reaction», «S.W.A.T.» and many others. Khaki military watch also appeared in "Frogmen”, filmed in 1951. And this was probably the first film, where Hamilton watch played the lead. "Frogmen" is a film about the World War II, so the creators were looking for a real, weighty prop - reliable and precise military watch. And Hamilton Khaki appeared to be the perfect actor for this complex role.
The gorgeous role of a watch from Ardmore collection is shown in the melodrama "Autumn in New York" (2000), where Richard Gere, the brilliant actor, wears this watch on his wrist. In this movie Gere is Will Kane, a businessman, who falls in love with a young girl Charlotte (Winona Ryder), who dies from an incurable disease at the end of the film. In the relations of lovers Hamilton Ardmore watch is a symbol of their infinite love, a unique wedding ring. And another famous film, where Ardmore watch appeared, was "Lethal Weapon 4," directed by Richard Donner. In this film, Hamilton watch is a precious treasure, belonging to the Danny Glover's (Roger Murten) family.
In Hamilton history there is one more great historical film, directed by Stephen Soderbergh, known as "The Great Depression". This documentary movie, filmed in 2009, tells us about the Great Depression of the early XX century. In October, 1929, on the Stock Exchange in New York there was a grand collapse that led to the beginning of a common panic. People did not know what to do, so the film's character decided to become a commercial traveller, selling Hamilton watches. Later it appeared, that this business would lead the main character to success. It is amaising, that in this film, Hamilton watch was specially included in the script. And, in fact, the watches by this brand were on sale during the Great Depression, as Hamilton watch company was launched in 1892.
We can describe the "career" of these watches in the cinema for ever. Besides these films with Hamilton watches, there are also such blockbusters as "Pearl Harbor", "Chicago," "The Talented Mr. Ripley," "Fight Club", "Killers," "Predators," "The Aviator," "Die Hard 4.0" "I am Legend," "Fantastic Four", "2001: Space Odyssey", "Charlie's Angels," "Big Fish" and others.
The brilliant wrist watches by Hamilton also appeared on the Russian screens in March, 2011, in the film "Wedding by Exchange" («Ñâàäüáà ïî îáìåíó»). The main characters of this film, Fyodor Bondarchuk, Maksim Matveev, Maria Kozhevnikova and others, wear the wonderful wrist watches by this brand.
"Babies and dogs are the best actors in movies". This is, as you know, the words of the great Charles Spencer Chaplin. We take the liberty of supplementing this statement. "Babies, dogs, and...watches....” Well, you can guess!
