German Museum of Horology

Surprisingly, museums dedicated to the art of watchmaking, theGerman Museum of Horology world's unity. Moreover, except for a narrow circle of collectors who have heard little about the two most famous museums of watches - a private museum Patek Philippe and International Museum of horology in La Chaux-de-Fonds. That is why the discovery of German Museum watches by Glashutte Original and Swatch Group with the support of the City of Glashutte was of great interest. Visiting the museum, you begin to perceive time quite differently. In the words of Muller: "The example of the magic symbol called the mechanical watch you realize that people and time are inextricably linked." In addition, the building is located and the school of Horology Glashutte Original name of Alfred Hellwig, which reminds of the glorious past and the old museum.

Who will be able to clearly tell us about the opening of the German watchmaking museum, but one of its principal founders, CEO, Franck Muller Glashutte Original.

Opening:

The project was declared an open tender, but our company - the only one who took part in it, with the result that we engaged in a museum. Although, as far as I know, this idea arose, and from other companies, who in turn discussed the possibility of organizing a museum with the city government and Glashütte in Saxony. But in the tender part just us.

Frankly, as a stone fell from the soul. Guide this project involves a great responsibility. First, we are accountable to a group of companies allocate considerable funds to bring the museum project to life. Second, we must not forget about our potential visitors. It was necessary to organize an exhibition so as to be accessible and interesting and wide range of people with fairly recounts the history of watchmaking in Germany. And, judging from the opening day, we have a: visitors like it. They were interesting to look at our exhibits, and it is very important.

But this is only the beginning. Now the museum is a large watch exhibition. But we can not rest on our laurels. Necessary to replenish the collection of artifacts as the distribution of our stores around the world, and more open publishing. The work has just begun. The first phase of our project is complete, time to move on to the second. We ourselves in the organization of museums meaning not a lot, so enlisted the help of the most knowledgeable experts in order to further our museum was not just the exhibition center, a place where interested people can talk about the history of watchmaking, to speak, to argue. The museum should develop as a living organism. It's important that watches have become part of human culture.

Opening the museum, we were just hoping to increase the numberGerman Museum of Horology of fans of watchmaking. In some museums, watch the impression that they exist only for a narrow circle of specialists. Of course, such a museum worthy of respect, but our planned by German watch museum should differ from them. We wanted to spark interest in the young generation to today's youth and devoted part of life to this hobby. Therefore, we wanted to make our exhibits as much as possible with more modern and original. To help us come to "Atelier Brückner," co-operating with the theater. They helped us pick up the equipment and decide which way to go narrative that it was not boring, but interesting and fun and so did not even have to be distracted by reading stands.

Exhibits:

In the socialist era, when various companies merged in Saxon "SIB", their collections were also merged. After the reunification of the country, this collection (400 watches) walked into the fund of Glashütte. It is the most complete collection of Saxon watches of various epochs, and which is exhibited in the museum.

The museum has many original pieces, designed not only to scholars but also to the broader masses of people. So it was intended. If we built a museum exclusively for fans of Glashutte Original or Saxon watchmaking art, we would not have to cover all that the audience that we had hoped. So our goal - to tell the younger generation about the values of watchmaking art and famous manufactures with a serious reputation and rich history.

German watch museum, perhaps the most fascinating of all existing. The exhibition occupies a total area of 1000 square meters, which previously housed the German school of watchmaking. Among the exhibits are a pocket watch many famous Saxon companies and watchmakers. Visitors will find many wonderful watches, the movements and separate units: the exhibit, among other things, includes descenders, marine chronometers, watch and astronomical models. Also presented are various tools, workbenches and metronomes. The collection is so interesting and accessible is described that visit the museum, even those who do not belong to the ranks of scholars and fans of watchmaking.

German Museum of HorologyMuch of the exhibition devoted watches produced by the Works "GUB" that is good news. Only by then prevailed in the country of the communist regime in quartz crisis has not affected us about and we continued to supply the mechanical watch in all communist countries. So without the wizard, "MBG" were not. Therefore, to restore the company to manufacture and movements able to so quickly. While much of Europe quartz watch in wiping out the mechanical, we quietly continued to work in a familiar vein, that played no role in the revival of the Saxon watchmaking. But to talk about one Glashutte Original it would be wrong. It is necessary to tell the story of Saxon art and to introduce visitors to all major companies, including A. Lange & Sohne, and others. In addition, to participate in the project we have proposed, and these young companies such as Nomos and Muhle Glashutte, so visitors get a better idea of Glashutte watchmaking in. The fact is that after the fall of the Berlin Wall and German reunification in Glashütte was revived or newly founded several companies. They play an important role in modern history, so do not tell them we could not. In this respect, our company has tried to be impartial. In addition, once A. Lange & Sohne, Nomos Glashutte Original and coexist in the same town, so we all should have a place in the museum.

We tried to tell all the companies, and I am pleased that all those who participated in the project, inspired with our aspirations.

The exhibits are equipped with modern equipment, convenient to view interviews with people who played a key role in the revival of German center of art and competent lighting rooms emphasizes the dignity of all such works of art, as a pocket chronograph Union with five hands. The exhibition leaves an unforgettable impression.

Particularly successful video series: screens, which are displayed on the interview, set fairly close together, so that visitors are almost all the time hear fiery speeches watchmakers and their fellow citizens, expressing their joy at the reunification of Germany and the revival of the Saxon watchmaking. Voices of masters constantly sound around the audience.

Such a triumphant revival of German watchmaking became possible only thanks to the unification of Germany and such eminent persons as Giinther Blumlein and Heinz Pfeiffer, and by Nicolas Hayek, who played an important role in our time. This museum - a symbol of revival. And what is even more striking, the narrative is not only about the history of watchmaking in Germany, but also about the history of a country, its people, survived the terrible shock of the economic, social and political spheres, but returned to the path of sustainable development.

Watch tells the story:

Watch itself - only the subject, which helps to measure time, but they have always served as a perpetual reminder to us that it represents. If not mistaken, in 1992, scientists declared that they had received objective evidence of the theory of "Big Bang". Then people realized that time is not infinite. It was up to us and our death will not stop, but it makes sense only human consciousness. So between the time of the objective, whose course not depend on us, and the subjective, which we define, there is a connection. And the watch - just what makes a person wonder German Museum of Horologyabout the meaning of time, that we have already achieved, and how we want to live the life. I feel that the future is rather uncertain people: around globalization prevails, the era of digital technology and the world is moving into the future with great strides. And our museum offers its visitors to reflect on the value of time. Mechanical watches represent something permanent, unalterable, they are directly connected with our history, and this is something, and their significance.

On the same floor are magnificent examples of pocket watches the early days of Saxon watchmaking and its classic era.
Climb to the next floor - see here is a watch. And even the appearance of watches you can identify which belong to the period more unified country, and which - at the time of the communist regime. The transition from epoch to epoch is reflected also in the functions of watch. So it's not just the things for which we determine the time, but witnesses of different periods of culture and history.
And the watch is possible to understand what was happening in a particular era in the social, economic and political spheres of life.

Civilization was born, when people realized that the time course, and our actions affect the world around us. So we can say that the watch is the embodiment of civilization.
