In 2009 the Swiss Angular Momentum watch manufacture produced the “Belle Epoque High Jewelry Timepiece Eternal Time” jewelry watch. This model ultimately eliminates the border between watchmaking and the jewelry art.
The first jewelry watches appeared in last century's 20s-30s. Their dominating concept is that of a sophisticated adornment, but not of a time measuring instrument.
The company's designers were inspired to create the watch model by the “Beautiful Era” (La Belle Époque – Fr.). It's a conventional name for a period of the end of the XIX – the beginning of the XX centuries, before the First World War started. La Belle Époque was the Golden Age of motor-car construction and aeronautics, the time of photography flourishing, the birth of cinema, successful discoveries in the sphere of natural sciences, newest technologies and medicine, the establishing of sociology and ethnography, archeological explorations, modernism in arts and literature, the start of feminization and suffragist movement. The epoch's conventional name points at the period of accelerated technical progress, economic successes, the blossom of culture.
The “revolutionary” 20th century has changed the character of art dramatically, drawing an unbreakable line between the old and the new art. Traditional classic elements of Baroque were combined with new modernist forms. In the first half of the 20th century the jewelry art gradually inosculated with watchmaking, resulting in first jewelry watches creation.
The Belle Epoque High Jewelry Timepiece Eternal Time model reflects the spirit of the Belle Époque, which became the cradle of modernism. The watch's case is made of 18-carat white gold. In the center of the dial there is the shining sun, besprent with VVS countermark diamonds. The watch's dial is “edged” with diamonds. There are 2 bigger baguette cut diamonds at the “6” and “12” positions. The watch has a non-standard time indication system – time is shown by 2 golden rounds instead of traditional hands. The big round counts hours and the small one – minutes. The model is assembled on the basis of a Swiss automatic movement. |
