Mechanical Wonder Toric Minute Repeater by Parmigiani
Swiss watchmaker Parmigiani has unveiled a new watch model Toric Minute Repeater, the creation of which the brand is inspired by the mechanical pocket watch of the 19th century.
As the official restorer of Edouard and Maurice Sandoz Foundation’s masterpieces, the company Parmigiani paid tribute to the genius of watchmakers yesteryear, recreating some of the models from the fund. Toric Minute Repeater is one of the "restored" models. The antique pocket watches of the Fund are exhibited at Mechanical Wonders of the exhibition A La Vieille Russie, passing in autumn 2011 in New York.
Taking the signed Perrin Freres Pocket Watch early 19th century and is now owned by EMSF, the company Parmigiani has developed a mechanism of the minute repeater with a time display in the sector aperture at the top of the case. Calibre PF 321, operating the models, is complicated by the minute repeater with cathedral chimes and an optional module that recreates an indicator of sector time. Time is indexed by a half moon –shaped aperture, which includes a 60-minute scale, divided into 5-minute units in every quarter of an hour.
Hours are displayed on the screen in Arabic numerals. The course of the watch can be traced in one complete turnover from 1 to 60 minutes. The module includes a rotator consisting of three planetary gears with four arms at each end of which is engraved a number. Being in direct contact with the hour wheel, a set of disks is driven by the cam system, which assigns the position of ending an hour and results in a coming position.
Aesthetically, the novelty attracts the attention of a large bezel that frames at the perimeter the case with double grooves and a central part of the watch. The dial is made of white gold, and geometric patterns are engraved on it by hand and covered with translucent enamel. It highlights sector aperture, and thus display hours and minutes. This part of the white mother of pearl dial is equipped with applied indexes.
On the back of the caliber the cathedral chimes in blue steel are presented in the original form of a snake winding around a mechanism that is visible through the sapphire crystal on the case back. On the back of the Toric Minute Repeater it is engraved an individual number and a title of the exhibition A LA VIEILLE RUSSIE - NEW-YORK, 2011.
The round three-part case in white gold with polished surface has a diameter of 45 mm and a thickness of 12.9 mm. The watch water-resistant is up to 10 meters.
Functioning of the watch is provided by the mechanism with manual winding PF321 28 mm and a thickness of 8.55 mm. The mechanism is paved with 33 stones. Carrying frequency is 18 000 vph, and the power reserve is 45 hours. Bridges in platinum are hand-beveled. . Caliber is perfectly polished and decorated.
A black Hermes strap is made of alligator leather and has a clasp in white gold.
