In 1970, the famous Hamilton watch company released its first quartz Pulsar watch with LED display. It is worth saying a few words about this type of display. LED - is the light-emitting diode. LED is a display device and the transmission of visual information, where every pixel presents a semiconductor diod. In 2010, the watch company celebrated the 40th anniversary of this watch release, and presented another great premiere - Hamilton Pulsomatic men's wrist watch, that came into the market in autumn, 2010. The name of a new watch sounds intriguing, because it consists of two conceptual words - Pulsar and Automatic. The design of this watch reminds us of the model of 1970s. The watch has the same LED-display, but the distinguishing feature of the new masterpiece is not the quarz, but the automatic Caliber N1970 movement with ten stones. It was developed specially for Hamilton and Rado watch companies by ETA, the Swiss factory, specializing in the production of mechanical and quartz watch movements. It is a caliber, that is responsible for the unique symbiosis of the digital display and the "alive" movement. ETA factory is a member of the world-known Swatch Group Ltd. It is rather interesting, that in 1970, Hamilton joined the Swatch Group (SSIH), so, 2010 can be considered a double anniversary of this watch company. Hamilton Pulsomatic men's wrist watch has a futuristic design — no doubt, it will be highly appreciated by the electronic watch fans, who still prefer the latest technology to the vintage style of the last century. These "electronic" watches by Hamilton are surely not the first of the kind. The first such a model was developed by Harry Winston watch company, that presented its Opus in 2008. Opus 8, designed by Frederic Garinaud, the Swiss watchmaker, is a mechanical watch with pseudo-electronic display, similar to display of the watch of 1970s. The Pulsomatic watch movement is plainly visible through the transparent sapphire crystal back. The convex sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, that protects the black dial, reminds us of the watch of "men in black" — the cult and elite Hamilton Ventura watch. It is worth mentioning, that even then, in 1957, Ventura watch was called a watch of the future.
Who knows, perhaps Pulsomatic will become the most popular model among the watch fans of the XXI century. It is the model, that combines the user-friendly electronic display without unnecessary "frills” and the traditional reliable movement. This mechanical watch with automatic winding and 82-hour power reserve has the inimitable case shape of 38.5 mm x 48 mm, it reminds us of the shape and design of the TV screen. It is funny, but we can not but agree, that the Pulsomatic display also bears a strong resemblance to the face of an extraordinary robot from the animated cartoon "WALL-E", known as Eve. It seems that there is too much empty space on the watch dial. It could be filled with something, but, curiously enough, it still looks quite stylish and cool.
The water resistance of this watch is up to 50 meters. The Swiss Hamilton Pulsomatic watches are optionally available in three versions. The first one has the steel case and the metal bracelet, the second – the steel case with black PVD-coating and the black rubber strap, and the third – the steel case with yellow gold PVD and the black rubber strap.
So, Hamilton Pulsomatic is a kind of return to the last era, but at the same time, it brings something new in the modern horology. May be, such an unusual model will become an indispensable classic in the near future. In other words, Pulsomatic is the past, that has already become the future!
