BaselWorld 2012: Concept Watch X-watch by DeWitt
The watch company DeWitt has presented at the annual international exhibition BaselWorld 2012 the conceptual watch X-watch, in fact, the continuation of the theme of its original watches with a swivel case.
The X-watch model - this is the third concept presented by the company. The first concept of this series was presented in 2005 at the famous watch auction Only Watch, which is traditionally held to support researches to combat Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The second concept was introduced in 2007 - then it was an extremely complex piece of watchmaking art - the concept watch - WX-1.
The concept of X-watch is the third, which became one of the most unique exhibits at BaselWorld 2012. Its external form the model X-watch is resembled no longer the watch, but the mixer, which gives the product a certain playfulness and artistic expression. In addition to an association the company’s master added the concept of an unusual sliding case back in the form of X, which partially covers the dial and is a main feature of this model.
An interesting method of the movable case back is in the part of the mechanism which is concealed by the fine play of overlapping layers of the mechanism. By the way, this technique quite often is used by the masters of DeWitt in their products.
The case back, made in the form of X, is powered by four buttons, which are located in the upper and lower parts of the case. Pressing the button is gently pushing the middle of the case back, revealing a look at the dial. Among other things, a unique cover is equipped with a special mechanism that regulates the speed of the cover.
The watch case in diameter of 49 mm and made of titanium Grade 5 may be reversed only when the cover is opened. That's when you can flip back and again lock it, closed the case back.
The basis of the concept became a manufactory caliber DW 8046 - a unique development of the company. The caliber is the world's single double-sided watch mechanism, equipped by double retrograde hour and minute hands, which are located on both sides.
The mechanism has a chronograph function and tourbillon, as well as automatic sequential winding system ASW with peripheral rotor. The DW 8046 caliber consists of 544 parts, presenting a unique example of the ingenuity, creative freedom and the courage of the DeWitt’s masters.
