A wristwatch by Breitling and a dive to 244 meters
Conducting deep-sea tests of the watches Breitling the freediver Herbert Nitsch set a target to achieve another record: in summer of 2012 without a scuba to dive to a depth of 244 meters. An austrian conqueror of the depths has descended by 214 meters in 2007. The new record will be broken near the island of Santorini, Aegean Sea. On account he athlete has 31 world records.
Despite the fact that the dive is planning not soon, very serious preparations for it have started right now: the athlete is now testing equipment, which includes a Breitling watch. As we know, this is the model of the Chronomat 01, having a water-resistant to 500 meters. Then what is the uniqueness of the experiment, you ask? The matter is that the water-resistant of the most watches is checked in the lab somewhere on the second floor of the workshop, which does not correspond to the real depth. Usually the watch is just put in a special apparatus with water, which forced by the pressure corresponding to the required depth.
In the case of a real immersion the task of standing for a real dive is assigned. A human life literally depends from the chronometric device. Tested in this way watches actually can be trusted. During the dive at the feet of Herbert will be attached by a special ballast, pulling to the bottom, and shoulders will be pressed by torpedo tubes to speed up the dive to the required depth, because it will occur without scuba gear - in one breath. During this immersion the composition of human blood is changing, there comes a completely different self-awareness and often hallucinations appear. You need to have iron nerves indeed to see it through. And of course, only the most reliable in the World watch - to discover in time the "air parachute" and return to the surface.
Chronomat 01 mm has a 44-diameter steel case. Dial in black. It is equipped with a unidirectional bezel with a ratchet mechanism. The watch is officially certified by COSC and has a 1 / 4 seconds chronograph. The model has also the chronological 30-minute and 12-hour counters.
Inside the watch is set an automatic Breitling Caliber 01 on the 47 jewels, which has a 70-hour power reserve.
The watch is supplied on a perforated rubber strap Ocean Racer or DiverPro, which has a protruding ridge on the center, so that it resembles a fish.
By the way a "flying fish» is a nickname of Herbert Nitsch. The fact is that in addition to freediving, Herbert has an ordinary job, which echoes the Breitling theme of aviation - he is a pilot of Tyrolean Airways.
