New Lunokhod Prime by Konstantin Chaykin at BaselWorld 2012!

At all times the Moon excited the imagination of people who sought to unravel many of its secrets. The well-known independent watchmaker Konstantin Chaykin was no exception: the Moon has become a source of inspiration to create unusual wrist watch Lunokhod Prime, which the master has proudly presented at the annual exhibition BaselWorld 2012, which took place from 8 - 15 March in Basel, Switzerland. Konstantin Chaykin introduced his first watch creation Lunokhod in March 2011. He offered his vision of such complications as an indicator of the moon phases in it. The skill and ingenuity of the master has immediately gained recognition of the whole watch world. And now, at BaselWorld 2012 Konstantin Chaykin introduced the updated version of already famous wrist watch Lunokhod - Lunokhod Prime.
As in the first model, the main decoration and distinguish feature of this watch is a small copy of the most mysterious celestial body - the Moon. However, if in the first model the moon is represented by the ball, made of Damascus steel, the new version is decorated with ocean pearl. Konstantin chose the pearl no accidently; pearls have always stood out among the many gems due to shape and unique qualities. It is a live stone in the literal sense of the word. Many centuries ago pearls were first used to create jewelry. The peculiarity of pearl that it naturally has a round (or pear-shaped) form and requires no special additional processing. However, to find a perfectly round natural pearl is very difficult. That is why hundred pieces of pearls were observed for the role of the moon, and eventually the master managed to pick a beautiful one and, most importantly, absolutely round. The mechanism of the new watch Lunokhod Prime is completely designed and developed by Konstantin Chaykin watch manufactory. Every detail of the mechanism is sanded and polished by hand. It is the only mechanism in which a functional unit of the construction is used raw natural material!

The complexity of the wrist watch Lunokhod Prime technical design is the need to propel a spherical moon-phase indicator. Absolutely round pearl with a diameter of 12 mm, as the moon, is fixed relative to the Earth. The change of the lunar phases is made by a silver half-sphere, which revolves around it and symbolizes the shaded part of the satellite. Lunar phase is continuously replaced at regular intervals. The period of "watch Moon" move is 29 days, 15 hours, 44 minutes and 2.8 seconds. The unique mechanism is equipped with a continuous corrector of the moon phases, which is a patented device of Konstantin Chaykin manufacture.
