Designer Fiona Kruger decided to contest the laurels of Mr.Jones watch company and release its own version of the chronometer with the skull of the Mexican holiday called "Day of the Dead" - Dia de Los Muertos. A student of Lausanne University of design and art has presented this extraordinary watch as a graduation thesis.
The model name Memento Mori is translated as an appeal "Memento Mori" - then it becomes clear why for the dial the skull was selected. The watch does not just bear the skull’s picture on the dial, but the whole case is made in the form of a human skull. At the same the watch dial represents the so-called "skeleton" - when the dial does not almost exist, and through the slits in it the current details of the movement are seen. Teeth of the skull are not painted, even enameled and marked the traditional Geneva engraving. In general, the entire dial and viewed through it the movement is perfectly decorated and furnished. And even skull eyelashes are painted.
The upper part of calfskin strap is integrated into the watch case, but the bottom half meets the couple of lugs, while outlining the neck of a skull for Memento Mori. The crown is on the right - replacing one of the lugs. The metal clasp of the strap has a decorative appearance with sharp edges.
Watch case is made of silver, and its contents: radioed brass, decorated with gold leaf. Protecting the dial the mineral glass is cut by hand, to fully comply with the unusual form of the case. Three central curly hands are set in motion by the famous Swiss watch automatic movement ETA 2824-2.
Of course, by applying traditional Mexican designs the wrist watch Memento Mori does not look as sinister as it may seem from the name. They are rather ironic and, as psychologists would say, talk about the holistic owner’s perception and acceptance of all aspects of the World. At the moment, Memento Mori is created in a single instance - a prototype. Go to ever the watch of Fiona Kruger on sale is not known. Perhaps the new Memento Mori will be released under the name Mr.Jones - in any case, the other watch brand, carrying along this theme, today, perhaps, is not found.
