Otium Watches

The German Otium watch company was founded in 1999 by a young watchmaker and designer Dirk Hillgruber who has developed new ways to show time by means of original design. These are exclusive watches of inimitable design in which moving components, operating in the specific system, dominate.
Extraordinary models of watches, presented at the BaselWorld exhibition, were created by designer's skilful hands. Thanks to unusual design, Otium watches have become well-known and popular. Many collectors began to order from the master these original watches past which it was impossible to go. Dirk creates his watches following one idea: “We do not follow function. Our form is the function”.
The first model is Regulateur with a “jumping” hour and a “mystical” minute. It is quite a new design, the realization of fresh design ideas completely reflected in this model. The round case of 42 mm diameter is made of stainless steel. The black dial is a new design word and has two small windows located at 12 and 3 o'clock position. The 12 o'clock window shows time and to be more precise shows hours with the help of a “jumping” small circle of white colour. The latter window does seconds. Minutes are indicated with white lines and shown by a small red hand. The company's logo is at 9 o'clock position, at 3 – a name of the model. The crown is located as usual at 3 o'clock position. The model has the black leather strap and is equipped with the Swiss-made ETA movement.
Every model made by this German designer is of extraordinary style. Otium watches are for people who appreciate uniqueness and want to underline their vividly expressed individuality. For example, such model is Sphaera with the round stainless steel case. In the centre of the black or white dial there is a hand around which numerals are arranged in a form of a cross: 1, 2, 3 numerals are situated on the right side, 7, 8, 9 – on the left side, 4, 5, 6 – at 6 o'clock position and 10, 11, 12 at 12. The steel balls show hours and the central hand shows minutes. The watch are water-resistant to 30 metres, equipped with the Swiss-made movement ÅÒÀ 28247-2 and has the leather strap of different colours.
Dui:z is the next original model from Otium with the central indication of minutes. Steel balls show hours. In comparison with the Sphaera watch, numerals are arranged as usual on the dial but each marking has its own steel ball. The small hand situated in the centre of the dial shows minutes. The dial is protected by a sapphire glass. The watch is equipped with the Swiss-made movement ÅÒÀ 2824-2.
Trigulateur is the company's new model combining modern design and some elements of design of classical racing cars. Three small dials (hour, minute, second) located on the main dial resemble of a historic racing car speed indicator, revolution counter and temperature indication. The crown is located on the left side at 9 o'clock position. The model has the leather strap of black or brown colour.
The German Otium watch company is famous for other original models of watches as Otium 07, Segue, Linear and so on, each of which is unique reflecting the time in a new way.
