Cedric Johner Watches

Cedric JohnerThe founder of the companyCedric Johner Cedric Johner - Cedric Johner was a graduate of the Geneva watch school. For establishing his brand, he spent ten years working in the famous Swiss watch companies. Yoner established his watch manufactory at Vandevere. The watchmaker tried to create a watch that would be different in their appearance. He did not like either square or "barrel" or traditional round dials. And in 1996 he found what he sought - namely, a hexagon, which has rounded corners. He named this unusual figure «Abyss».
Many watchmakers would like to create a watch with such a case, but so far no one has it. Case with this unusual shape requires careful handling. Sapphire glasses also have a rounded hexagonal shape, so in harmony with the body. All cases are made only in Cedric Johner and finishing by hand. However, for watches with a tourbillon and repeater case are made by hand from beginning to end. For these watches, the masters select one of the whimsical materials - platinum.
The stamping of the cases requires detailed control of the press, and as tools wear out quickly, while processing of platinum must be constantly cleaned them. But the most difficult stage is polishing of the case. Automatic tools cannot be used in the polishing of the platinum, even the slightest error surface is covered with "scabs". For the manufacture of platinum case the masters spend more time than it is to create a similar case of gold.
Cedric Johner trusts the manufacturer of platinum cases only three masters.
Create a new form of case - that's not all. The founder of the company pays great attention to detail and, as they attach to the dynamics of the form. The brand produces watches with Roman and Arabic numerals, which are located in completely different ways. When you look at the watch, it seems that the numbers run up to the dial and the complex shape of the case as if forcing them to remain in their place. This effect is called the elementary laws of the visual field. To gain experience the masters engrave the cases and dials with guilloche. They use the most sophisticated method of guilloche - manual. Guilloche is qualitative in that case, if the image is transformed into a play of light and shadow and invisible transition from one line to another. This effect can be achieved when the distance between the lines evenly and not more than 0.2 - 0.3 mm. It is very difficult to do it manually.
The main motive of the watches Cedric Johner is a wave that is the logical complement of cases in the form of Abyss.
Johner wanted to use in his watches all known inventions of the great masters. At the 1997 world exhibition in Basel the watch company Cedric Johner, who participated for the first time, presented a model with a "jump" hour, a year later - perpetual calendar, models with retrograde second hand and watch with second time zone. But in 2001 Johner surprised everyone: for the year, he created five masterpieces: «Tourbillion blue en Platine», «Repetition Minutes Abyss», «Monopulsunt» (Women's Chronograph), «Chronographe roue a colonnes» (split-chronograph with column wheel) and the interesting mechanism - Caliber 10.
Cedric JohnerJohner as many watchmakers Cedric Johnerdo not want to "hide" tourbillon. In the model “Tourbillion blue en Platine” case back is transparent, and the mechanism itself is a dial. Yoner developed a drum for this watch. Screws, steel parts of the platinum and even movement are painted blue.
In the same year Johner created a masterpiece of his collection – “Repetition Minutes Abyss”. The mechanism of this watch was created by Johner and Christophe Claret.
Creating chronographs, Johner didn’t want to repeat all the traditions and the ways in which born chronographs. Instead of the usual modern and at the same time practical cam, he put the column wheel. And because this is a complex and difficult system in it production, “Chronographe roue a colonnes” was released only in five pieces.
In the creating of women's wrist watches Johner used not modern middle button chronograph, because they are not very elegant. He created a single-pusher chronograph, which was based on the hand-winding mechanism Jaquet.
Cedric Johner always wanted to products released by his company, was personal and reflected the personality of the owner. This is possible only if the owner to be attended in creation of watches.
