Casio CRW-002D-1A Turns the A168 into a $135 Ring Watch

Casio’s CRW-002D-1A brings the A168’s rectangular digital face and bracelet-inspired metalwork to a working ring watch. Casio America announced the CRW-002 series on November 2, with US availability scheduled for November. The silver version reproduces the face markings and stepped outline of the A168, a model introduced in 1995.
A watch module small enough for a ring
High-density mounting and a miniature battery reduce the electronics to approximately one-tenth the size of a conventional watch module. A six-digit LCD shows hours, minutes and seconds, with three pushers providing access to the settings and additional functions.
Dual time accompanies a stopwatch that measures hundredths of a second for up to 60 minutes. The display can switch between 12- and 24-hour formats, and an automatic calendar is included. A white LED backlight illuminates the screen; a separate pulsing-light function flashes softly at a selected time or at the start of each hour.

Molded steel and adjustable sizing
Casio uses metal injection molding to reproduce the case and bracelet shapes in stainless steel. The ring’s band section has a matte finish, contrasting with the surrounding case. A bonded mineral-glass cover protects the display, and the construction permits battery replacement. Casio specifies average accuracy within 30 seconds per month.
The supplied sizing inserts fit inside the ring. They reduce its internal diameter from 20 mm to either 19 mm or 18 mm, corresponding to Japanese sizes 22, 19 and 16. The unmodified ring is a US size 10.5. Its box includes a pouch and a silicone support that doubles as a display stand.
