Casio G-Shock GMC-2500: an Analogue G-Shock with a Magnetically Mounted Minute Hand

Casio has announced the G-Shock GMC-2500 series, a new family of analogue G-Shock watches with metal bezels. The five models were confirmed in Casio's news release of 22 October 2026 and go on sale in Japan in November 2026. The most unusual detail is the minute hand, which is held in place by magnets so that it can move under a hard impact instead of being damaged.

A minute hand that gives way
Casio calls the system the Shock Release Hand. Instead of being fixed rigidly to its pinion, the minute hand is mounted magnetically. After a strong knock it may shift briefly, then returns to its correct position within a few minutes. The aim is to protect the hand and the movement from the impacts that G-Shock watches are designed to survive.
The dial also has a "Multi-Mission Date" window and an automatic calendar programmed until 2099.

Steel or resin
The series comes in two builds. The GMC-2500D has a stainless steel bezel and bracelet and is offered with a black dial (GMC-2500D-1A) or a blue dial (GMC-2500D-1A2). The GMC-2500 combines a metal bezel with a resin band, with a black (GMC-2500-1A) or silver dial (GMC-2500-1A8), plus a version with a gold dial and gold ion-plated bezel (GMC-2500G-9A).
