Dutch watchmaker Grönefeld announces the release of its model One Hertz Techniek, released in a limited edition. The novelty is equipped with a rare nowadays watch complications, which was called "dead seconds". This complication has been popular in the 18-19 centuries and used in marine chronometers.
The essence of this complication is the following: the second hand on the dial does not move smoothly, that is, with a frequency of 8.6 movements per second and jumps, one jump per second with a frequency of 1 Hz. Most of the time the hand is in place, and when a second is passed, it jumps at exactly one scale. Movement of the second’s hand is carried out by means of a barrel and is driven by a system of gears. Another barrel is responsible for the display of hours and minutes.
