In Egypt, the Basel University researchers have found the most ancient sundial.
The sundial, the age of 3.3 thousand years old, was found during excavations at the entrance to one of the tombs of the Valley of the Kings. In appearance it is a small disc, on which is drawn a black semicircle, divided into 12 equal segments.

In the center of the disc there is a hole with depth of 16 cm. Probably, it serves to hold the rod of wood or metal, its shadow enabled the ancient Egyptians to determine the time.
Archaeologists have found a sundial near the stone home of workers, who in the 13th century BC engaged in the construction of royal tombs. According to specialists of the Swiss university, the ancient sundial was used for calculating the time of the tombs’ builders.
