Export Increases Slowly But Remains Significant

The Swiss watchmakers place their hopes on 2012. According to forecasts, the sales will reach the record sum in 2012, even in comparison with the excellent results of the last year. Today we'll see, how the events are moving during the last four months.
So, in April, 2012, the value of Swiss watchmaking export reached 1.7 billion Swiss francs. As compared with April, 2011, the export in the same month of 2012 is 7.9% up. However, the rates of growth aren't so fast as in the last year. Despite the slowdown, April has achieved the highest export value since the beginning of 2012.

Bimetal watches are still in demand, but export of steel watches has reduced for the first time in two years. The number of export watches remains stable: rising quantities of models in some materials are offset by falling volumes in others.
Now let's examine the specific information. In April the sales of watches costing less than 500 francs (export price) remain the same as in 2012. On the other hand, the sales of 500 – 3000 francs category products increase by 7.7 % against the last year. Also during the last four months of 2012, the sales of watches from the luxury category increase by 20%. I can draw a conclusion – the world is becoming more wealthy day after day!

The main “fan of S wiss watches” is the market of Hong Kong, the sales in the USA are going down because of the unfavourable base effect. China remains one of the most dynamic markets. As for Europe, France and Italy didn't live up to experts' expectations, but Germany, in seventh position, experienced monthly growth of 24%.
