Today in the Swiss city of Basel, in the halls of the giant exhibition center Messe Basel, the annual exhibition BaselWorld 2012, which became the most important event in the world of watches and jewelry, has opened its hospitable doors.
The inauguration ceremony was headed by Minister of Economic Affairs of Switzerland, Federal Councillor Johann Schneider-Ammann. His participation in the exhibition is intended to emphasize the importance of the watch industry in the Swiss economy. In 2011, the Swiss manufacturers have increased its exports by 19.3 billion francs, in the result of which the watch industry has become the third largest industrial sector in the country. More than 90% of the total export value is provided by the companies-exhibitors of BaselWorld.
The opening ceremony was conducted by Christoph Brutschin (Councillor of Canton Basel-Stadt), Jacques J. Duchene (President of the Exhibitors Committee) and René Kamm (CEO of MCH Group).
As in previous years, the exhibition is held in the pavilion with a total area of over 160,000 square meters (in such format the exhibition is held for the last time, BaselWorld 2013 will be held in a modernized exhibition center).
At the annual exhibition of BaselWorld 2012 the 1815 watch and jewelry manufacturers from over 40 countries worldwide are taking part. The exhibition will be visited more than 100,000 visitors and 3,000 media representatives from 100 countries.
