Cosmic watch RO1 Space by Roland Oostwegel

R.O.1 Space Special EditionThe watch companyR.O.1 Space Limited Edition Roland Oostwegel has announced a new wristwatch R.O.1 Space, intended for the usage by astronauts during spaceflight.
The reason for creating these unique and complicated watches became the meeting of Roland Oostwegel and Dutch astronaut of European Space Agency (ESA) André Kuipers. During the meeting, the astronaut told Oostwegel about his feelings of time loss during the space flight. Oostwegel pondered over this problem and began working on the implementation of the project. As a result of the developments the company Roland Oostwegel has introduced two models: R.O.1 Space Special Edition for space flights and R.O.1 Space Limited Edition for use on Earth.
R.O.1 Space Special Edition has the case, made of carbon fiber black. The case diameter is 44 mm, thickness - 15 mm. The thickness of the sapphire glass protected the case on the top is 2.5 mm. The black dial is marked with white Arabic figures. Hourly indices and central hands are coated with luminous compound.
Inside the watch is built a Swiss mechanism ETA Valjoux 7750 Automatic, completed the time displaying by means of central hour and minute hands. The small second hand is presented at the lateral indicator of the position 9 o’clock. The elapsed time of the space mission in weeks and days is fixed in the twin aperture at 3 o'clock position. The chronological functions are displayed on a 30-minute display in the position of 12 o’clock, 12 hour indicator at 6 o'clock position and through the central red second’s hand. Two models R.O.1 Space Special Edition will go to the space together with André Kuipers. The space mission is scheduled for December 21, 2011.
"Civilian" version of R.O.1 Space Limited Edition is equipped instead of elapsed time of the space mission indicator with the standard aperture of date and day. The novelties will be supplied with cases in gold, ceramic, titanium and stainless steel.
The watches with a steel case are available in 4900 euros.
