The next bold step, made by the CEO of Harry Winston Rare Timepieces, forward to the perfectness was the creation of one more watch from the Opus collection. This is Opus 6. The talented and goal-seeking man, Hamdi Chatti has stepped in for the CEO Maximilian Busser. Hamdi Chatti has not allowed Opuses “to die”. This time, as it was before, Harry Winston company collaborated with the watchmakers of genius – the design and the movement of Opus 6 was developed by the two talented craftsmen from the Swiss Greubel Forsey watch company. This company is headed by a Frenchman Robert Greubel and an Englishmen Stephen Forsey, who had been also cooperating with the world-famous Audemars Piguet watch company, where Robert Greubel worked as the Deputy Chief. Before the collaboration with Audemars Piguet Robert Greubel was working hard on the development of Swiss Grand Complication watches for IWC watch company. “Under the roof” of Audemars Piguet the two talented watchmakers got acquainted, working together on the complicated watches with the alarm functions, minute repeaters, perpetual calendars, chimes and tourbillons. With the lapse of time, Robert Greubel and Stephen Forsey decided to launch their own watch company and produce their own Swiss wrist watches. Since that time, their names have become the comprehensive whole (Greubel Forsey), like Patek and Philippe, Vacheron and Constantin or like Audemars and Piguet. The goal-seeking watchmakers always stand the gaff and set about the most complicated work. They have created the unique laboratory, known as the Experimental Watch Technology, where they create and examine the latest watch concepts and Grand Complication watches. In 2004, the watchmakers amazed the whole watchmaking industry by presenting their inimitable masterpiece, the so-called Double Tourbillon 30°. Being inspired by the stunning victory of two watchmakers of genius, Hamdi Chatti invited them to work together on the creation of the next flashy men's wrist watch, equipped with their famous Double Tourbillon 30°. The watchmakers did their best and succeeded in this business.
Opus, released in 2006, is an incredible timepiece, that features the brilliant Double Tourbillon by Robert Greubel and Stephen Forsey. The essence of this mechanism is that it consists of two carriages. One of them is big, 15 mm in diameter, rotating at the rate of one turnover per four minutes, and the second one is the inner carriage of the normal size, rotating at the rate of one turnover per minute. The Double Tourbillon is inclined at 30° relative to the movement's plate to reduce the diameter of the balance wheel, maintaining the high precision of a watch. The balance with a free spring makes 21 600 vph. In addition, such incline allows the Opus owner to observe the brilliant work of the tourbillon. The movement of the sixth Opus has came to be known as Emotion 30°, it's rather a romantic name. It consists of 288 elements, 128 of which compose the tourbillon with two carriages, weighing 1.17 g. Emotion 30° caliber has the two fast-rotating series-coupled barrels, and assures the power reserve to 72 hours. The uniqueness and newness of this model is that the watchmakers have developed the brand-new dial with three round counters and the wonderful going trains. It seems, that the time indication is “pushed to the sidelines” – the hours and minutes indications are performed by the co-axial disks at “3:00” position. Small seconds are read by the disk at “11:00”. The accurate mechanical Opus 6 watch with manual winding features the tourbillon, that has moved from the traditional “6:00” position to “8:00”. No doubt, this watch must have some features of Harry Winston company, that is why Robert Greubel and Stephen Forsey has given to the tourbillon bridges the shape of Harry Winston's arches. One more schtick is the invisible gears, it has been achieved by placing them off-centered beneath the bridge. The number of this Opus – “6” – appears by a trick of the eye on the bridge, hour and minute sector. Finally, the quantity of these models is conceptual too – just 6 timepieces. The size of the case is rather “masculine”, 44 mm in diameter. The six Opus owners will possess the watches, made of 18K white gold, with the crocodile leather strap and white gold buckle. This magical “group of six” is water resistant to 30 meters. Two friends, Robert Greubel and Stephen Forsey, basking in their glory, deserved by the creation of Opus 4, consider the Double Toupbillon of this model their main achievement. They were inspired by the common passion for the watchmaking. While developing Opus 6, the Englishmen Stephen Forsey was responsible for the purely technical side, and the modernist Robert Greubel – for the artistic moments. The watchmakers characterize their masterpiece as “a watch with virile character”. |
