BaselWorld 2012: UR-110 ST Watch by Urwerk

At the world exhibition BaselWorld 2012 the famous watchmaker Urwerk has unveiled its new model UR-110 ST.
The name of the company Urwerk is associates with the supercomplex watch models. The novelty - is no exception. It should be noted that the style of the watch and its design is excellent. The new item, like all the models of brand Urwerk, combines the traditions of high watchmaking and the sophistication, giving to the watch the original appearance. The massive case has retained its original form, inherent for the watches by Urwerk. There are two variants of this model:
UR-110 ST – with a case of titanium grade 5 and bezel of stainless steel coated with AlTiN, UR-110 TTH - with a case of titanium grade 5 and bezel of tantalum.
Tantalum is a metal having high levels of hardness and density, as well as anti-corrosion properties. Bezels are attached to the titanium case with six screws, giving to watch a military style, which is further enhanced by a gray-blue color of pure tantalum. One of the founders of Urwerk, Felix Baumgartner says about this metal as follows: "Tantalum - a rare metal, which is named after a hero of Greek mythology, a synonym for the eternal temptation. No wonder we could not resist the charm of it. A special shade, typical of this metal, allowed using it in a very pure form. Processing and satin finish by hand - this is all decoration, through which the metal was presented in its natural beauty. "
Another element of "military" style is engraved on the glass of UR-110 TTH number.
Relief of the case ring of the model UR-110 ST corresponds to the three-dimensionality of the philosophy embedded in the watches by Urwerk. Martin Fry, the designer and founder of the company, describes a model like this: "A timepiece for everyday usage should be a source of pleasure. It is a pleasure of the basic instinct of possession, as well as a pleasure, bestowed by experience. I like the quote from Paul Claudel, which states that "the sculpture feels the need to touch." Hopefully, UR-110 ST can cause this need."

In terms of reading time in the models of the UR-110 lines, all the three pointers are aimed at the minute arc. This inseparable trio is flying over the plate, minute by minute verifying their position. Time blocks are strictly parallel for a total turnover. This result is reached by the brand’s master due to the three-level structure:
A. The central tower over the entire height of UR-110, which guarantees the stability and balance of sophistication;
B. The central carousel provides rotation of the movable blocks of time around the dial;
C. The three watch blocks, each of which consists of "satellite hour" and the minute hand is mounted on the planetary gear transmission. The three mobile blocks are carried out by the constant rotation in the direction opposite to the roundabout of the central carousel.
The UR-110 watches occupy a worthy place in the collections of the company Urwerk, reflecting the passage of time by means of "satellite" hour indication. The watch pointer is opposite the minute one, which is located on the right sidewall. The mobile block is lowered along the vertical arc with markings from 0 to 60 minutes. The brand’s masters have been working over the watch more during two years, in the result of which a delightful novelty was introduced. The most difficult was to create an ideal central carousel and rotating blocks of time. It should be noted that the masters have achieved the desired results without the ball bearings, with a fixed axis over the entire height of the watch. This point of attachment is the basis of satellite complication with its impeccable balance.
The wide sapphire crystal makes it possible to enjoy the performance of the model. The control panel on the front side of the watch is equipped with a pointer of an hour, an indicator of day / night, developed by Urwerk a pointer of maintenance “oil change” and a 60-second counter. The watch is equipped with the original crown with integrated safety device with two adjusting provisions.
