The company's founder Emmanuel Isaac Lipmann was born in Neuf, in 1844. All his childhood he spent in his father's workshop filled up with parts to repair watches. In 1867, at 23 years old he moved to Besançon and opened his own workshop with 15 employees. Thanks to his boundless diligence, original perception of esthetics and irrepressible desire for creating and making, production rapidly grew. His children inherited not only a profitable occupation but also love for a job. Fred, Lipmann's grandson, was in luck above all others, later in 1931, launched a line called Fred Line. Fred's passion for motorcycles and travelling through the USA, where he visited the Harley Davidson factory and during some time studied watchmaking, influenced design of watches a lot. His innovations of designing movements breathed a fresh air into realization of watches as an accessories. In the circle of the biggest makers Fred was a genius. Shortly, his company set leading positions at the watch industry market in France. 1954 was a peak year for the company with 1500 employees. In 1946 there was a 2-year educational system of watchmaking organized by the company. In 1958 the first electronic watch called Electronic was launched. To the 100th year company's anniversary, the first watch of water-resistance to 200 metres, the Nautic-Ski watch came into the market. Since 1968, a famous freelance artist, Francois de Baschmakoff started collaborating with the company. He took the lead in creating the collection consisting of models which look reflected a modernized “grandfather's watch”. Francois de Baschmakoff used disc indication in his watches that was considered to be more practical in the field conditions as the dial could be covered with a whole steel piece. The De Baschmakoff Chocolat model is a prototype of the watch having been produced by the eminent designer in 1972. This is the modern watch with disc indication for men, a case made of stainless steel, a dial of white colour and a strap made of natural leather. The Fridge Ruby watch for men is a part of the collection of the designer, Roger Tallon. The model is based on the Swiss movement Ronda775. The watch has a stainless steel of grey colour case and a red dial perfectly matching a red strap made of natural leather. Marks on the dial are made in a form of a needle. Design of this model will be appreciated by lovers of vanguard style. The Type 10 Black model of Jean Mermoz's collection launched in 1933. Its case is made of black stainless steel, and its black dial is covered with mineral crystal. Due to high quality and price affordability, the Lip products won the reputation of durable and elegant production of mass consumption.
