New feminine interpretation of a classic shape of Obaku watches

Obaku launches new watch design

Classic shapes become evergreens because they are beautiful to look at and have characteristics that will defy time and fashion trends. Evolving a classic shape into something that still has the characteristics that made the piece withstand time, but adding a touch that will make it stand out as new and refreshing is an art. Danish Obaku designer, Christian Mikkelsen, has mastered this art in the newest addition to the Obaku collection.

Classic and feminine
Adding a feminine touch to an evergreen, classic shape was the thought behind this elegant watch from Obaku. “I wanted to create a watch which would last beyond any fashion trend and be as beautiful fifty years from now as it is today”, says Danish Obaku designer, Christian Mikkelsen. “At the same time I wanted to give the look a new feeling and a very feminine touch”. Mikkelsen has achieved this by slightly altering the curves on the case and lugs and adding a slightly slimmer strap than would normally be on a watch this size. The transition of the expression lies in the details. “The slight taper of the lugs and the proportionally slimmer strap is what gives the watch its feminine appeal”, says Christian Mikkelsen.

Organic shape all the way around
The new Obaku watch has a classic, organic shape, a clean and simple dial with twelve indented indexes and comes with either a mesh or leather bracelet. “You can wear it for any occasion. It really is an all-round watch”, says Christian Mikkelsen. The back case is beautifully rounded, so it fits the entire shape and curve of the watch. This is a new feature, which will prevail on all future Obaku watches as well. “Often the design of a watch will be limited to the front and when you turn the watch around, you see the standard look of a rather bulky, flat back case”, says Christian Mikkelsen. “With this watch, and in fact all future Obaku watches, I wanted to give the entire piece a finished look. The curve from the front of the case continues into the back case to create a very organic look. This incorporates the back side of the watch into the design, so the design does not end when you look at the watch from the side or the back.” In addition to the aesthetical benefits of this new case back design, the watch will not as easily collect dirt, as there are no indented spaces for dirt to hide. The back case completely flows into the curved design of the watch. What a masterpiece!

 Obaku

The name of the young watch brand Obaku was given from branches of the Zen Buddhism philosophy. And the brand logotype is a repetition of “circle of life” which is considered to be a significant symbol at the Zen school. Everything is changing, passing, developing to start from the very beginning. This philosophy contains a lot of paradoxical things. Zen is called as a study that cannot be taught so long as opposite ideas are pouring together, for instance, calm and indifferent attitude to life and death with attention ...
