Silver Medal Winner of the British Horological Institute

An independent watchmaker Roger W. Smith won a silver medal from the British Horological Institute. The award was presented to the master for "devotion to the best traditions of watchmaking in England, their continuation and development."

Silver Medal of the British Horological Institute was established in 1987. In the new millennium the honor to receive it was given to six masters. The award to Roger Smith was presented by Kenneth Lloyd Jones. He particularly emphasized the dedication of Roger W. Smith to the art of making watches by hand, honed to perfection by many years of work on this path.

During the ceremony the watchmaker made a speech in which he remembered his arrival 25 years ago in Manchester School of watchmaking, where he received a diploma of British Horological Institute. That first day, he still thinks the best of all years of study. According to Smith’s words, it was then that he "was fascinated by the multi-faceted fascinating universe of the watch art."

Despite the economic difficulties, which undoubtedly affected on the independent creators of the wristwatches, Roger Smith is convinced that the Swiss chronometric art today is experiencing a real sunrise, which lasts for about 15 years. According to Smith’s opinion, now once again it is flared up an interest in the modern wristwatches - the demand for them is huge, including even the most expensive and luxury brands.

Roger Smith creates author watches Roger W. Smith. What is meant "author"? All models are designed and collected by the master himself. Design, fabrication, polishing, assembly, testing of all parts, and eventually finished watches - this is what the independent artist is doing. At the time, as most of these processes are usually carried out on by the factory workers or simple machines. To buy an author watch - means to purchase a truly unique work of art, which has its own personality and character. To create such masterpieces the watchmaker must possess a high level by several interrelated disciplines, because the entire production cycle is literally in his hands. Of course, these watches have high quality and, especially, to create them by own is a great responsibility.
