In August, 1934, the American researcher Charles William Beebe and his partner Otis Barton reached the record immersion depth of 923 meters at a point in the center of the Atlantic Ocean after many years of hard researches and successful tests. Gerald Schroder, inspired by this amazing fact, developed MOLA 923M watch in Berlin. The watches were released specially for professional divers and the number of models was limited to 1000 items only.
All the details of MOLA 923M watch are thoroughly finished according to the strict rules and old traditions of Haute Horology. Watchmakers paid a great attention to every tiny element. So, as a result, the watch company presented an incomparable and brilliant model. The watchmakers used only high quality materials for the watch production. It's worth mentioning, that the development of design and the production of every detail of stainless steel with the help of innovative technology was held by the most experienced specialists from the SUG company in the city of Glashütte, Germany. The final stage of watch production was the case inspection. Every watch case was subjected to a hydromechanical pressure test to 40 bar.
In the second stage, MOLA 923M watch, bearing the serial number 1•006, was selected to be tested by the additional pressure under the control of Germanischer Lloyd, Hamburg. During the whole hour, MOLA 923M watch, enclosed in a cylinder, was subjected to the pressure test to 93 bar. The design of the case back was developed in the similar style, based on the principles, influenced by the entrance hatch on the Bathysphere.
The wrist watch's name is also of a great interest. The model takes its name from the sunfish, known as Mola Mola, that mainly inhabits in the warm waters of Asia, Australia and Africa, but sometimes it can be found in the Mediterranean Sea. Mola Mola is a very interesting fish, the length of which is more than three meters, the weight is more than one tonne. There is one more amazing fact – Mola Mola fish can dive to the depth of more than 1000 meters. So, there are some parallels with Mola 923M watch. Like Mola Mola fish, the watch can be submerged in the depths of the sea.
MOLA 923M watch was subjected to the test, being submerged to the depth of 923 meters in the Atlantic Ocean. In the autumn of 2008, the expedition sailed about 75 kilometers into the open sea not far from the Portuguese coasts, to the south west of Porto. This is the place, where MOLA 923M watch was tested, the model successfully passed the examination in the exact coordinates LAT 40° 49,985′ N LON 9° 34,998′ W. This coordinates were engraved on the rotor of the automatic movement. It's worth mentioning, that the company annually releases only 100 MOLA 923M watches, every item is sure to be tested under the same conditions and to pass a special certification.
MOLA 923M watch has the 42-mm round case (48 mm with the winding crown), made of stainless steel 316L. The dial features two big hands (hours and minutes indication) and a small second hand at “12:00” position. The three-dimension dial also features the date aperture at “4:00”, the company's logo at “6:00” and the Arabic numerals, treated with the luminescent coating. The winding crown is placed at “9:00” position.
The dial is protected by the sapphire crystal, 4 mm thick, with anti-reflective coating. The watch features the unidirectional rotating bezel. The wrist watch comes with the silicon strap of the black colour and the stainless steel buckle with the engraving, presenting the Mola Mola fish. The water resistance is assured up to 923 meters. The watch is powered by the automatic 2895-2 movement with the engraved rotor.
