The LEONIDAS WATCH CO. watchmaking company was founded by Julien Bourquin in St. Imier, an Italian town, in 1841. The company specialized in producing high-quality complicated wristwatches and pocketwatches containing such complications as a moon phase indicator, a triple calendar and a chronograph. During World War II, the company was a main supplier of watches for German army. The Nazi Eagle and the Swastika that were invariable standards, were engraved on watches of that time. The company's model of 1940 called Leonidas Triple Date Moonphase Vintage Chronograph had all above-listed complications. The Swiss movement Venus 200 based on 17 stones is in the gold case. In 1930s many watches for the German army were made by LEONIDAS WATCH CO. company. On January, 1 LEONIDAS WATCH CO. factory merged with its main competitor of the watch market of that time the TAG-HEUER company and stopped existing. Nowadays original wristwatches and pocketwatches of LEONIDAS WATCH CO. brand, having been made in 1930s-40s, are considered to be the antiques, and it is possible to buy these watches at collectors or through electronic shopping.
