Lang & Heyne is one of those watchmaking companies that produce movements for their own watches. The factory operates in the same way as 150-200 years ago, keeping the traditions of the last centuries' watchmaking. The Lang & Heyne company resembles a museum where different machines, a guilloche machine and a blade to adjust the balance are situated. Different small parts (a hand holder, a devise for polishing axes and so on) from which a watch is being made, remind of a returned to life fairy tale.
The founder of this watch workshop is the watchmaker Marco Lang. His father, Rolf Lang, who was the chief of the restoration department of the museum, inculcated to Marco interest to complicated devices. The best masters of Germany were Marco's teachers. Surely, the factory, following the example of the 19 century's one with a staff of 4 workmen, cannot compete with modern watch companies to production volume. And Marco are not striving for it. He has the only aim to make everyone happy with his original unique watches. The company's motto says: “Time in its best showing”. The brand makes about 100 models of watches a year. Each model is a work of art and reflects the age-old philosophy of Dresden watchmaking workmanship.
Work started with a plate of the watch movement. Then a draft blank of the bridge which is engraved by hand, appears. All the parts are covered with silver by a pig-hair brush to achieve wonderful shine. After, the process of making the details begins in the way as it was 100 years ago, but this process takes five times as much time as previous one does.
Dials are made of silver and enamel. Watches are equipped with the best and most precise movements.
The Lang & Heyne company's masters themselves engrave and make screws for watches. Forms and functions are created with the highest accuracy. Every model and every watch detail absorbs masters' warmth of hands.
The company has made Caliber I, Caliber III, Caliber IV and Caliber V – its own movements.
