In 1919 a men’s wrist watch line, decorated with precious stones, is launched and a women’s line was produced after that. In 2 years first radios with timers were produced. Bulova tried to adapt to the time he lived in. Don’t forget, that this was not the best time for USA. You could stay afloat during the First World War and after the Second World War only thanks to the flexible economic policy. The brand started producing watches for soldiers. It was the responsibility of Arde Bulova, the brand founder’s son, who joined his father’s business and inherited Joseph Bulova’s watchmaking empire after his death. During the Second World War Bulova started cooperating with USA Ministry of Defense. Bulova started producing equipment for the country’s military forces. The company provided USA government with watches for soldiers, specific Bulova watch creatingwatch movements, equipment for planes, precise movements for torpedoes and explosion fuses. After the war Bulova set up a school for war veterans and numerous people, who got physical injuries during the warfare solely for his own funds. The people, who had forgotten what peace and calm meant during the war period, were gradually getting back to life at the school and were studying a new completely peaceful profession – watchmaking.
With the first digital “Accutron” model’s creation, Bulova brand’s worldwide fame and renown started. This watch was invented by a Swiss Max Hetzel and an American V.O. Bennett. Its accuracy mistake was minimal and counted 2 seconds a day. It was the first breakthrough in the watchmaking technology for the latest 300 years. During the 60-s the brand discovers new horizons and starts elaborating technologies for space programmes. Accutron Bulova becomes an essential part of satellites and space ships. Bulove became the first watch brand to provide a written guarantee of 1 minute per month accuracy.
In 1960 the company started serial production of “Accutron-214” wrist watches. It was a novelty for the time, as it was making pleasant musical sounds instead of traditional ticking. All innovations and inventions in the watchmaking world were associated with the name of Bulova at that time. The brand’s founder didn’t like stopping at what he had reached and soon a new invention from Bulova appeared – a watch with a photo-timer. This novelty dates back to 1960.
Bulova company became a part of “Loews” corporation in 1979. The originality of design and the exclusive models became the basis of the company’s new strategy.
